You can't hear it well enough. The noise itself isn't bad, but it isn't loud enough. If the track microphones get boosted it'll be better. Hearing the turbo on the onboards is pretty sweet. The problem is when you're not onboard you don't hear it. They'll get it figured out.

Definitely, just put some louder pipes on it and the whole series will be fixed. Maybe allow them to rev a bit higher too. The would sound like boosted motorcycles!

See with turbo V6's, I was hoping they'd sound like the Turbo Honda MP4/4's.

I was dissapointed :(

They sound so badass. Skip to 4:11

They're just dumping post-turbo into atmosphere; there's no "louder pipes" to be put on it, really, and the revs still wouldn't help much with noise levels.

There's no fix here, aside from turning up the mics trackside.

Agreed. I think they sound excellent. Not quite as good as the ear-splitting V8s, but much more space-age.

3000 more rpm would actually help a lot. Part of the issue is that they only rev to 15k, meaning the sound a bit like the old engines on a cool-down lap. Doesn't sound like they're going full-tilt.

We'll adjust after a few races I'm sure.

I watched the Sky Sports broadcast and the announcers made a comment that drivers are much easier to hear and understand on the radio now with the quieter engines. Which you could really tell when they played the radio transmissions. Last year drivers would be yelling at the top of their lungs with the motor howling away in the background. This year it sounds like they're driving in a regular car with a bluetooth headset on.

Wow, you can really hear when the boost kicks in.

They said that was due to the lower revs too - apparently the high revs of the V8s particularly cross over with the frequencies you need to carry speech. Not sure if I buy that – Lewis was saying you can stand in the pitlane without earplugs now.

I read that they're not even running up to the 15k limit very much because of fuel limits and wide torque bands.
